The chateau de Joux enjoys a rich and diverse programme of artistic and cultural events.

This is based on the history of the chateau and on the fight for freedom: the anniversary of the death of Toussaint Louverture, the abolition of slavery, exhibitions, readings and artistic residences, new plays and theatrical productions, concerts, night-time visits, treasure hunts, cultural heritage visits, historical re-enactments… and also a few events that combine sport and heritage in this magnificent setting.

Exhibition « The War of 1870-1871 and the retreat of the Army of the East »

This panel exhibition traces the history of a little-known European conflict that unified Germany, forged the Swiss identity and founded the French Republic. In the middle of the war, as the French army from the East retreated to Switzerland to seek refuge, it fought its last battle at the foot of the Chateau.

Thematic guided tour: discover Château de Joux in a new light

Saturdays April 5, May 3, June 7, July 5, August 2, September 6, October 4 and November 1, at 3:00 pm (duration: 1h30)

Every 1st Saturday of the month, at 3:00 pm, take part in an original themed guided tour that will introduce you to unique facets of the Château de Joux.

Over the course of the 2025 season, various themes will be explored, enabling you to discover different aspects of the site.

Evening show, « Prisoners of the Caribbean »

  • Thursday, July 17, 24, 31 and August 7, 14, 21 ;
  • Fridays, August 15 and 22;

Duration: approx. 1h15

A historical quest that will take you on the trail of the incredible story of Jean and Zamor Kina, in turn slaves, officers of the English crown and rebel leaders, imprisoned at the Château de Joux.

This unusual night-time show will take you on the road of the fight for freedom. A family show for young and old.

The "Nuits de Joux" Festival

Every summer (from late July to mid-August), the association “Le Centre d’animation du Haut-Doubs” organizes the Festival des Nuits de Joux, combining theater, dance and music in the setting of the cour d’honneur, at the foot of the keep – and also in the streets and concert halls of Pontarlier.
